Proximity Searching
Did you know most databases allow you to search two terms close to each other. This is called ‘Proximity Searching’?
For example, the search ‘poverty’ AND Canada, can find the term poverty in the first paragraph, and the term Canada, as far down as the last paragraph, and it might be completely unrelated. But if you search poverty within 15 words of Canada, you are much more likely to find an item that is related to your search.
EBSCOHOST databases use the command Wn, where n represents the number of words between the two terms. So the search poverty w5 canada, will search for the word poverty within 5 words of the term Canada.
Look for help using Proximity Searching in any of the databases you use, or contact your reference librarian for assistance.
